Other tips:

Make sure you feed and water your pet regularly. Your pet CAN die or stop gaining energy if you neglect it.
When you are going away for more than 2 days make sure you ask someone to take care of your pet (a trustworthy someone)!
Energy for your pet refills with 10% every hour, make sure you use it wisely :)
Your pets health is important when it gets too low you cannot train it anymore. You need to regain his health by walking it, walking your pet costs you 50% energy.
Pets do not live forever, beware of your pets age counter....! Make sure you sell your pet before it dies.
When you want to do a mission, check the required stats for each mission in 1 of the updates message in game. If your pet is healthy it has a better chance of succeeding.
The new inventory item can of evolve gives your pet 100% energy. If you combine that with the Tarzan pro perk you can train your pet pretty hard :D

These are great tips. Is there any advantage to purchasing a more expensive pet in the market?

Name Pic Race Speed Power Price Change/Go
#Murda Poodle 7.50 7.50 $7000
#Franklyn Bulldog 7.50 8.00 $8500
#Shorty Irish Wolfhound 8.00 8.00 $9500
#Tank Mastino Na 8.00 8.50 $10500
#Blaze Rottweiler 8.00 9.00 $12000
#Wunder German Shepherd 9.00 9.00 $14000
#Tatsu Japanese Tosa 9.00 9.50 $16000
#Alba Dogo Argentino 9.50 10.00 $18000
#Stargaizer Pitbull Terrier 10.00 10.00 $20000
#Custom Custom 10.00 10.00 $25000

I mean, it looks like the more expensive the pet, the better the initial speed and power. Just sure it gets better training over time, though.

The only advantage of buying the more expensive pet is the higher starting stats. Depending on how you "raise" your pet you can actually get the last mission done just as fast with the poodle as you can with the pitbull or custom pet. At least it was that way, don't know if the admin made any adjustments.
